Amanda did not plan to become a teacher while attending Mount Union College. She pursued a degree in Accounting and minored in Secondary Education.  While doing her student teaching, she realized her true passion was teaching.  She ran an Administrative Office Technologies program at a boy’s prison in Massillon, Indian River Juvenile Correctional Facility.  Realizing that education is the strongest pathway to re-entry, Amanda explored certification options for her students, and eventually was offering MOS certification for her students.  In 2013, Amanda landed a teaching position with her alma mater, GlenOak High School, as a business teacher. In her time at GlenOak, she has formed partnerships with United Way, and Junior Achievement of East Central Ohio.  These partnerships have proven to be invaluable to her program and as a result, she has launched a senior capstone course dedicated to student entrepreneurial ideas at Case Western Reserve’s thinkBIG! conference the last two years.  In May of 2019, her JA Company Bats Around Town was accepted to present at the national level in Washington, DC in June. Amanda and her husband have a 2 year old daughter.  They enjoy travelling to Europe and the southwest, and attending live concerts.
